He hoped la idiota was ready for this.

Reports had reached them that there was a sudden outpouring of aggressive Pokémon—beasts—creatures coming from the deeper areas of the cavernous system that made up Area Zero, and they had to be dealt with.

However, since they were also Rangers, this was also the perfect time for them to get some intel on what these beasties were and how best to handle them…

So he would he out here, cruising through the skies while riding atop Ro the Metagross; acting the part of lookout in case anything decided to throw themselves at the, well, two of them out here.

(They were grown men; they could handle this easy!)

“…Hoenn is just throwing us one curve ball after another, wouldn’t you agree?” he hummed quietly; an attempt to make conversation.

Plenty of Ranger reports had already come in regarding hoards of dangerous paradox pokemon that lurked the caverns, so it wasn't surprising when Ollie himself got an alert that a situation had to be dealt with. Well, of course then, he would call for his best friend Laurence Anderson to join him in on the mission — plus, it was the first time since the other's retirement that they would be able to work on any official business together.

[break][break] Alongside Lars and his Metagross, Ollie cruised atop his Pidgeot. The pokemon's sharp gaze surveyed the area below, looking down at the sparkling crystals.

The moment the other mentioned Kalos, he felt this momentary burning jealousy in his gut; but quenched it.

(Conceal, never feel, right? Right?!)

“What, prefer to be out of the chaos rather than right here?” he teased the other; their positions were reversed now—he was no longer Head Ranger while the other was one of the Head Rangers now.

“Feel like running away sometimes, don’t you?” he hummed as he squinted out over the ground below. Things were quiet now… just don’t tell Lars about the multitude of Spinarak nests around here!

“Did you mean that in the platonic, or the ‘more than just friends’ kind of way?” he would sass back.

If there was one thing he excelled at, it was this: hiding his emotions especially when it came to friends he truly, madly, deeply cared about.

(Unfortunately though, la idiota wasn’t available, so he would have to hide all that pain underneath the universe’s biggest pile of salt, to never be found again.)

“Bruh,” he would huff back once he’d had a chance to gather his thoughts.

“Remember when I got kicked out of my spot, I had a lot of remaining unused paid time off? I went back there and fixed… family affairs, pretty much. It’s kind of hard to be the head of the family now despite being in another region altogether. I had to delegate a shitton of things and. Well… fix some other stuff.”

He would get into that later, if the other wanted to ask about it.

“…I don’t miss the tourists though. Way too loud for my liking.”

[break][break] Whether he was feigning obliviousness or sincerely unclear was left up in the air as the conversation shifted back to Laurence Anderson hometown. His head tilted towards the other as they flew across the skies that seemed - at least for now - relatively safe.

“In a way… yeah. Things got rather sketch,” he would share.

Because the truth of the matter was that—

“It got so sketch to the point I actually had to go into the underbelly of Alto Mare—you know, you thought the place is all tourist traps and art destinations—well, of course there’s going to be a criminal underbelly part to it.”

There, he said it.

“Apparently, in order to fix something, one has to go through a lot of things in the criminal underworld just to set the record straight.”

While it did involve a lot of… deals made under the table; fact of the matter was that he wanted to run the clan’s businesses there on the straight and narrow as much as possible.

Before he could elaborate further, he saw something small and glittering hovering in his field of vision, which he plucked from out of thin air.

“Hey, look. Ro found something sparkly.”

Playing with the Gimmighoul coin between his fingers, the quiet wouldn’t last long because they would then soar through a patch of overgrowth that had…

Oh, you have got to be kidding me.

A string of loud cursing came his way as he then immediately brushed the Ariados webs away! Oh, ew!

Fucking ick.

“Geez. What… what kind of monster-sized s-s-s-spiders live here?” he shuddered.

"The underbelly, huh," Ollie remarked, eyes curious as he glanced at his best friend. It wasn't something that they often heard about from the touristy land, but it made enough sense. After all, every place had a dark-side to it.

[break][break] But not everything always went belly-up like it did in Kanto.

[break][break] "Set the record straight?" he echoed, brow arched. "What did you actually have to do, Lars - "

[break][break] Before he could finish his words, however, the glimmer of something sparkly caught his eye in the other's Ranger grip, and his own lips spread into a smile. "Woah! Grats! That's a lucky one."

[break][break] If only Ollie himself could've been so lucky.

[break][break] Then again, Laurence Anderson luck was short-lived because he flew right into a floating Ariados web, to which the Head Ranger let out a laugh. He steered his Pidgeot closer to his friend, leaning over to pluck some stray webbing out of his friend's hair.

The terror of getting himself snared in any kind of byproduct made by arachnid Pokémon sends him into outright panic and terror mode; with him reaching up to get the sticky webs out of his hair and all over his clothes where the gooey threads had clung to.

“Ew, ew, fucking ew, god, not this, no, no, no…” he would trail off in a whine; the last part becoming unintelligible ~~Italian~~ Alto Marean grumbling as he made absolute certain that there were no remaining globs or strands stuck on any inch of his person.

“Ew. Just… ew,” he breathed out once he was absolutely certain that his hair and his skin were web-free.

Due to their insanity up in the air, they missed the earthquake that had happened; but Ro hadn’t, and was quick to warn them via a certain grating noise that something was happening around them.

“Wha—huh? Ro? What’s it?” he continued as he looked up from his panic-induced fit and saw that the area they were traversing was… trembling.

“Whoa. Maybe there is some benefit of travelling in the air, after all. Ro noticed the place was shaking while… that happened,” he ended with a flinch. Ugh. Weakness.

Either way.

He then looked over at his best friend once again.

“Let’s just say… the part of my family that lives in Alto Mare is tangled with… shady business.”

He would put it at that, unless the other was going to poke and prod further.
